CountrySTAT UgandaDescription of the National Government Mandate for Official Data Publication and Dissemination on CountrySTAT The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is the principal agency of the government involved in the collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical data and also acts as the official source for statistical information. The national government mandate for official data publication and dissemination on the CountrySTAT web site is with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal, Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) with very close collaboration with UBOS. MAAIF has the mandate to produce production statistics on Crops, Livestock statistics and its related indicators, Fisheries and other Indicators in the sub-sector. Different data sets are aggregated and validated at the TWG meeting before they are published in the CountrySTAT site. UBOS is represented in both the Technical Working Group (TWG) and Secretariat to ensure the quality of the official data to be disseminated. How CountrySTAT Uganda Achieved Its Objectives 1) Technical Working Group Meetings When the implementation of CountrySTAT Uganda started meetings were held with the representatives from various institutions in order to form the Technical Working Group (TWG) and the National Coordinating Council to advise on the establishment, organization and operation of the project. These meetings served as a forum to share information about the CountrySTAT framework and promote the collaboration of these institutions in the implementation of the project. Representatives for the TWG were identified in these meetings. 2) Training workshops, data collection and validation A number of workshops have been held in order to allow for the collection of data from institutions and the subsequent validation. This data feeds the CountrySTAT database. TWG members have been trained in the use of CountrySTAT in training workshops. During each workshop there is an update of activities and discussions on the next steps in order to provide a clear picture to the group on the work remaining. This gives the group and opportunity to strategize on how they will work together to complete the tasks. 3) Communication Communication is a very important in the implementation of the project, and contributes positively to CountrySTAT Uganda's achievements.
